The Archaeological department is created to preserve, preserve and absorb the heritage of real-time. केवळ चंद्रपूर शहर नव्हे तर संपुर्ण जिल्हाच ऐतीहासीक-धार्मीक पाश्र्वभुमी लाभली असल्यामुळे पुरातत्वीय दृष्टया महत्वाचा आहे. डोळस श्रध्दा आणि वैभवसंपन्न इतिहास याची ओळख आजच्या पिढीला करून देण्याचा गरजेतून ‘पुरातत्व संवर्धन’ विभागाची आम्ही निर्मीती केली आहे. वास्तवीक हा वारसा जपण्याची, त्यांचे संवर्धन करण्याची व त्याचे सोदर्य अबाधित राखण्यासाठीच पुरातत्व विभागाची निर्मीती आहे. पण जबाबदाऱ्या आणि कर्तव्यपालनात होणारी कुचराई या ऐतीहासीक, धार्मीक वारसाच्या ऱ्हासाला कारणीभूत ठरत आहे. किल्ले, मंदीरे, समाध्यांच्या भोवती साचलेला कचरा, वाढलेली झुडपं, पुरपाण्यामुळे ढासळणारे चिरे, तिथे वावरणारी असामाजीक तत्वे, या साऱ्याची डोळस नोंद, डोळस सदस्यांच्या मदतीने घेउन त्यामुळे नागरीकांचे व शासनाचे लक्ष वेधण्याचा प्रयत्न ही समीती करते. एवढेच नव्हे तर शक्यतेवढी स्वच्छता राखण्यासाठी ही आम्ही झटत असतो, जेणेकरून या पुरातत्वीय स्थळांचा आस्वाद घेण्यात नागरीकांना अडचणी येणार नाही. अर्थातच आम्हाला आपल्याही सहकार्याची गरज आहे.
